If you’re into tales of race bred performance and world beating athletes look elsewhere (Yeti Cycles would be a good start).

However if you’re after a story of how a bunch of riders with names like Horse and Hercules from a downtown bike shop created a unique frame for their distinctive riding needs and then watched it ripple into massive waves across the radical riding scene, then Cove are that unlikely fairy tale. OK so the fact that Deep Cove bike shop in Vancouver sits at the bottom of the slopes of the North Shore forests, means there’s no doubt that a geographical Fairy Godmother was involved. The idea of building Easton’s new ultra tough RAD tubeset into an unashamedly belligerent, big fork friendly hardtail that still kicked like an XC racer was definitely a frog kissing moment though. Never ones to take things too seriously, the success of the Stiffee saw Cove ride a wave of smutty steeds into the new millenia. The steel Handjob (originally hand-welded by Chris Dekerf), the drop off anything G Spot freerider, the Shocker DH bike, Hustler all rounder, titanium Hummer and the rest of the fnar fnar family might not always be princess pretty, but if going big or going home is the way you ride, Cove are still as honest and hardcore tough as their North Shore rainforest roots.

Cove is distributed in the UK by Silverfish. Here at Silverfish we’re really proud to be a founder supporter of the MTB Hall of Fame. That’s because we’re proud of the part we’ve played by delivering the best biking gear from across the globe into the best UK shops.

We scabbed our knees and bloodied our shins while Barrie Clarke proved wheels were the fastest way to cross Wales in the Man V Horse race. We saw the late great Jason McCroy introduce riser bars, tattoos – and let’s be honest – real style into racing. We’ve seen Rob Warner turn from being the first UK World Cup downhill winner to being the instantly recognisable rowdy voice of global MTB TV, and in the time it’s taken for Steve Peat to become World Champion and Nick Craig to prove he’s a perpetual motion XC terminator, we’ve laid down serious milestones of our own.

So here’s to the new MTB Hall of fame and all the inspirational icons in it – long may it continue.
