Martyn got into event organising almost by mistake after volunteering to help at the 1998 Plymouth World Cup race when he was doing a sports degree down there.
That first event inspired him and he started working full time on events while finishing his degree. He then went on to organise other events like the British National Mountain Bike Series, 24/12 and the Brighton Big Dog. With the Olympics looming, he started working with the organisation to develop the Olympic venue and worked full time on the event for more than a year before the Games.
A very hands-on race organiser, he’s very popular with the riders and you’re far more likely to see him out on the race course in wellies in the rain with arms full of zip ties than in a heated office giving directions.
