Steve Peat first came to the fore in the early ’90s when he was winning downhill races on a fully rigid Kona with skinny knobbly tyres.
His bike handling skills and competitive spirit soon saw him racing nationally, and then internationally as a pro at downhill races. Always one of the characters of the sport, Peaty was popular with the magazines and the fans alike and his list of results includes every title worth winning. A multiple World Cup winner, World Cup Series winner and Downhill World Champion, Steve is one of the oldest riders still racing on the dowhill circuit – and has been on top of his game for his entire career without a break – yet he is also one of the most friendly and approachable racers, always ready with an ‘Alright mate!’.
He’s now looking to put something back into the sport and is helping to discover and nurture tomorrow’s champions.
