Already a successful cyclocross racer, Tim Gould was one of the hairnet-helmet-wearing fit cyclocross guys who turned up at the UK mountain bike series in the late 80s and blew the field apart.
The early UK mountain bike scene can literally be divided into the time before that first race and the time afterwards. Tim brought the professionalism and dedication in training from cyclocross and applied it to mountain biking with great success.
An astounding hill climber, he won the World Mountain Bike Hill Climb title at the first Mountain Bike Worlds in Durango in 1990. He also won the Three Peaks cyclocross an impressive six times. These days Tim has retired from competitive riding but he is still talked of fondly by competitors and fans alike.
